MONEYBALL (2011) ★
This effectively made film is basically candy for me. I don't care about baseball, or math, but I do like stories about counterintuitive insights, clarity of perception, creative problem-solving, and the inner workings of institutions. Michael Lewis (who wrote the book on which the film is based) writes well about all those things, and Aaron Sorkin (who did rewrites on a script by Steven Zaillian) writes well about all those things for the screen (he can grow indulgent if given too much freedom, but he stays pretty restrained here). Pitt and Jonah Hill are both terrific, too.
